50 say whuh?!
Jul 30th
“It gets uncomfortable at some point, especially when corporations do it to you. Like you gonna go to the store and beef with the kid at the counter.”
50 Cent on people trying to capitalize off his fame, in particular Taco Bell. Fifty is suing the food giant over using his name without permission in advertising that asks him to call himself 99 Cent. The Mexican-themed chain’s campaign promotes items for under a dollar, including Cinnamon Twists for 79 cents, Crunchy Tacos for 89 cents and Bean Burritos for 99 cents and features him in a print ad asking him to change his name to 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent. Apparently Fifty had no idea he was featured until he saw news reports about it, therefore he’s seeking $4 million in damages.
Damn ma, that’s a whole lotta 50 cent pieces.

hustling magician + kreative genius clothing company
Jul 29th
It all started when Romane Orlando Robb, owner and founder of Hustling Magician and Kreative Genius Clothing Company, wanted to create a high end clothing option for the kids to get their preppy-on. You know, that clean, sharp, fressssh look.
“I personally don’t feel like wearing baggy/slim jeans and T-shirts on a daily basis so Kreative Genius came into play with my vision of high end polos, the best quality pants not jeans, tailor cut blazers etc. It’s more on the sophisticated side of things, while Hustling Magician is the everyday casual wear. Both brands have different markets, but don’t be surprised if you see the same person rocking both brands. That’s fashion,” claims Romane.
So what does the Kreative Genius Clothing Company embody?
“It stands for a positive creative thinker. The person whose brain never stops churning out good ideas, whether it’s fashion, business, you name it. Someone who is sophisticated, intelligent and Intellectual. Those are the characteristics that are mostly attached to geniuses. Kreative Genius is also that person who has a certain style of fashion that other people might find ‘weird’ or ‘too preppy’. That person is being creative and different which makes him sticks out as a ‘fashion genius’.
Word.

Okay if you’ve been wondering where hip hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash has got to (and noooo it’s not on a mardi gras float) don’t despair. Crumpet has found him safe and sound. It seems Flash has been remixing for Melbourne’s electronic gods Midnight Juggernauts. The Juggers are doing the whole festival circuit, having recently played at UK’s Glastonbury Festival and Fuji Rock Festival next week, but somehow they still managed to find the time to squeeze in a new EP featuring dazzling remixes of Into The Galaxy by Grandmaster Flash; the UK’s Metronomy; French producer Danger; local wonder-kids Architecture In Helsinki; Parisian outfit Chateau Marmont; and New York’s Shychild. So when can we hear this unusual remix? If you didn’t catch them at Glastonbury or Fuji Rock Festival then you’ll have to wait until end of August. Surely some website will have it illegally for the download. Not here though!
Clearly the Strangest Collaboration Of The Week award goes out to them. What’s next though? Justice and Lil Wayne? Oh, now that’s just fucking stupid.
wtf is cuprocking?
Jul 10th
All you need is styrofoam cups and a wire fence. Well that’s all Sydney artist Andy Uprock needs to create awesome slash intriguing slash revolutionary works of street art. So lets get technical about this whole cuprocking thing: using around 2500 individual cups for each piece (of course he recycles them between each project), Andy maps out large areas of cyclone fencing and sticks plastic cups into the existing diamond shaped holes, thus transforming streets and public areas into floating walk-by galleries. Cool huh? Well Crumpet certainly thinks so…

crumpet asks… aesop rock answers
Jun 18th
Q: What were you trying to achieve with None Shall Pass?
A: I was trying to challenge myself. I knew I wanted to make songs that were less about me and more about tell stories. I didn’t really feel that I needed to write any of that obligatory, competitive rap. I felt like I had done that. I don’t feel like I’m in a competition with anybody because I don’t really care what other people are doing all that much.
Once you knock out the aspect of competition or complication in rap music you’re left with a pool of other ideas that nobody has ever touched. I tried to sort of pick ideas and write songs that I hadn’t heard anyone write about, you know topics and subject matter all the way down to the way you’re presenting the topic and style, you know making a world, even with the artwork, everything that’s tied into the album.
I don’t want the album to be yelling at you when you put it on, I want you to be able to get lost in it and find that there’s a little story and you can follow it.
