A Tribe Called Quest x Air Jordan
Jan 25th
I’m a sucka for seeing collaborative work. For me, its such a rad feeling seeing 2 completely different subjects fused and executed with substance and style. I remember feeling that radness last week when I stumbled across the latest Jordan collaborations.
This time the crew at Jordan Brand (JB) found its inspiration through legendary hip hop group, A Tribe Called Quest. Using the album cover to Midnight Marauders as a colour palette, the designers at JB have come up with a silky smooth colour combination for the AJ1 Hi-Straps. The tongue, side panels and toe box has been painted with the tribal red and green confetti on a black fabric material. You can also find these colours on the stripes of the ankle straps. The Nike swoosh is made up of a black patent leather which all together, give these kicks mad points on my sneak-o-meter.
Although dopeness comes at a price… Word on the street is that these are going to be very limited with JB only allowing 24 pairs per account on selected urban providers. So keep an eagle eye when these drop early Feb 2009. Retail price will be around $110US which is currently about $168AU.
But wait…
You know there’s more inspiration through this collaboration. Also released are 2 new Jordan / ATCQ T-shirts. The shirt consists of a silhouette of MJ painted with the tribal black, red and green confetti and highlighted with a yellow border. This sits above the multiple black and white MJ faces just like the Midnight Marauders album cover. Available now in either white or black.

crème of da crop – syndrome studios

Let me paint the picture: rapper pulls up to a flashy nightclub in his flashy new Bentley. He’s escorted to the “V.I.P” room where a platter of half-naked females fight for air time in front of the camera, while his entourage hang back throwing gangsta hand signs in the air…
Ring any bells?
Yep, we’ve all seen our fair share of stock-standard, lame-ass, bling-bang hip hop videos. The industry has been pumping out these cringe-worthy clips for years, even from guys like Dre, Biggie, Pac, and my personal favourites – De la. But every now and then, when the stars align, a good hip hop clip can make us go ooh ooh ooh… like these ones made by LA-based Syndrome Studios:
With a mad mix of lush design, special effects, awesome cinematography, beat-timed editing and sick motion graphics, Syndrome creates music videos that are dope as.
