Cha-ching! We win!
As avid readers of many other writers in the blogosphere we’re always excited by news and changes that happen with likeminded bretheren. And as it goes the crew at Moovmnt (a hip hop news blog) held a logo competition to redesign their logo to go with their new (yet to launch) website. Me being a designer in my daytime guise, decided to enter and ah yesh yesh ya’ll won the comp! Check the comments. We’re eager to see the new logo design on their new site which as yet is coming soon.
News like this gives us reason to celebrate so we’re toasting our drinks every night ’til the site launches

Dang! Kevin Nottingham, one of our favourite blogs, has his website (we hope) temporarily and NOT permanently taken down. Check his message:
“KevinNottingham.com is offline permanently until further notice. After being threatened by my hosting company to take the site down for overloading server resources, I found a new host. Spent the last 24 hours moving everything over to the new server. After moving it to the new server, it crashed their server within an hour and they have suspended the site. Not sure when it’ll be back online”
As frequent downloaders to his website for ever fresh mixes, mixtapes and sample albums we’re poo’d for the meantime so we’ve resorted to twiddling thumbs and playing scrabble

What’s up on our technics 1200′s?
Mar 5th

At Crumpet we always have the freshest beats up on our Technics 1200’s. We are constantly digging and scratching the surface for artists and music that are pushing the boundaries and making us groove. And whats even better we LOVE to share the goodness with ya’ll….
Lush is the ideal word to describe this Californian born Brooklyn based artist Afta-1. Creating Dilla-esque sci-fi sound scapes that make ya wanna move. Carefully crafting hypnotic melodies over inimitable bass lines. His influences are evident in hip-hop as much as in jazz and avant-garde inspired space jams. Let his cosmic soul take over and control….your mind.

Xpizzle’s Bitch Slap
The most unintentionally hilarious thing one encounters in their journey as a hip hop journalist are press releases. Seriously who the fuck writes these things, people, that’s who, what’s worse than this is they are getting paid, actual money! There is one company in Australia doing an outstanding job largely, other than that it is a constant stream of rubbish into our mailbox, both online and the old fashioned postal way. Rather than helping launch their acts into the stratosphere of superstardom the third rate writing promises, they instead make them mocked and judged before the music has even hit the ears of a handful of listeners. If everyone is “the future” and every album “definitely the years best” what exactly does that leave? I long for the day where I read something along the lines of “CD contains an attempt at a Triple J single, three BBQ songs, some stolen beats & gratuitous use of the word fuckholio”. If those writing these releases are really serious about both their jobs and the careers of those they are looking to promote they need to step their shit up or step the fuck away from the Microsoft Word document.
Press release writers, you’ve been pimp slapped.

Dam Funk – Rhythm trax 4
Seminal Los Angeles based label Stones throw continue with their forth installment of the decisive “rhythm trax” series. Dam funk takes control of the mother ship and steers it straight into space…space boogie that is. Emerging as a new cat on the Stones Throw block, Dam Funk has taken the 80’s boogie sound and given it a new millennium imprint, bringing together vintage synth sounds over the funkiest bottom end rhythms which in turn create inimitable dance floor orientated joints catered to make you move.
first of all I’d like to thank god

With Diesel’s Dirty Thirty party now over, we Crumpeters gotta say throwing a big three-oh party for the rest of the world is a mad major marketing ploy to get masses back on the Diesel bandwagon which, in our circles at least, had been dying in the a-hole.
We’re taking a look at the mashups that happened as part of Diesel’s artist lineup.
London’s lineup included Soul Jazz Soundsystem, Mark Ronson, and DNB heavies DJ Fresh & MC Dynamite.
Stockholm sported Swedish hip hop superstar Lazee, while in Zurich the Cuban Brothers smashed it up.
Tokyo got a sweet deal with Soulwax and the venerably talented A-Trak
and of the more current commercially viable known artists Chaka Khan vs Hot Chip performing at the New York event also a pregnant M.I.A (coming out of retirement) vs N.E.R.D live mashup. Insane!! Check the clips here
