MURAL ON EBENEZER
Nov 23rd

When Matt Stuckey and Joel Van Der Knapp (of The Treehouse fame) wanted to create something to make the environment a bit more fun and engaging, they turned their skills to painting a mural representing the interaction between urban landscapes and organic elements in the creative hub that is Ebenezer Pl, Adelaide.
“Basically we just want to create something we’re happy to look at everyday. Hopefully people who we would never meet otherwise will notice and appreciate our work and contemporary art in general.”
Standing at over a story tall and about 9m wide, it’s impossible to miss the gigantic abstract form.
“It is huge. Both of us have a very bold, graphic style, so we’ve taken that look and scaled it up,” explains Matt.
With their studio just around the corner, Ebenezer was an obvious choice.
“It is between us and coffee, so we pass it frequently. It is a great location in a really creative hub. There will certainly be more and more street art in the East End in the near future so it is a great place and time to be up and visible.”

So now you can write and record tracks on an iPhone or iPod Touch *no studio needed*.
SPADER BLOG
Nov 23rd

Argh 2009. The year MJ died (RIP). Obama became president and the GFC raped us all hard. But in between all the gloom and doom, there was plenty of room for merry moments: Kanye dissing Taylor Swift. Jay-Z feeding us The Blueprint 3. Red + Method Man and their thoughts on Kelis… Yup rehashing 2009 is on everyone’s lips – especially the cool peeps over at Spader. They hit up and cornered one half of Crumpet founder and Attitude magazine journo Bee Peasy to jog her pea-sized brizain for her best 2009 moments a year could bring.

…plenty in common if you haven’t been in touch with twitter! Mc Hammer visited Sydney last week minus the parachute pants but still preaching. This time preaching the word of the internet i.e social media. Mc Hammer is a heavy twitterer and Social media club Sydney brought the Hammer down under to edumacate our masses about how it works for him and his experience. Alerted to my attention by fellow Crumpeter AFishNamedStargazer was this Space Jam Astro Dunk Tee. Undrcrwn are at it again! I think the name of this tee best describes how dope it really is. We know our readers are all clued in to what the space cadet on this tee is actually doing, but for the rest of the population that just stumbled on this goodness well its the one and only Michael Jordan dunk.
A remix like this comes once every blue moon and this is a limited edition so we say pull your socks up and get this. I did ![]()

THE WHY FILES WITH MR. THING
Oct 13th

It was 1987 when Mr. Thing started spinning records like Streetsounds Crucial Electro, BDP’s Poetry and Adam & The Ants Kings Of The Wild Frontier. From there he went on to become one the world’s best DJs, winning comps like DMCs World Champ (’99) and UK Champ (’00). Fast forward nine years and he’s recently dropped another mix CD Strange Games And Mr. Thing. Crumpet caught up with him to find out why he calls himself Mr. Thing, why he loves cake and why he wears adidas…
Why do you call yourself Mr. Thing?
Because of the hand from The Addams Family that does everything and also The Thing from the Fantastic Four as well, that represents more of the battling side of me from the DMC and competition days!
Why did you decide to take up DJ as a career?
It was something I wanted to do since I first saw it, I’d heard scratching and stuff before but when I actually saw it visually I got completely sucked in by it, and 20 + years later I still love it!
Why did you call your new album Strange Breaks And Mr. Thing?
Because BBE already had done a series of compilations called Strange Games & Things after a legendary Love Unlimited track, and when they asked me to compile the first volume, that was what I had written on the CD I gave them initially and they loved it!
Why do you love playing hip hop?
In my car my favourite single track is Boom Bap Shit by Nino Bless, Skyzoo, Scram Jones, Rhymefest and Ras Kass, produced by Madlib. It’s literally a break loop and they all just rap so hard on it, it’s killer. Reminds me why I got into hip hop in the first place, raw.
Why do you choose to wear Adidas?
I love wearing Adidas Superstars or Shelltoes because they remind me of Run-DMC, which is pretty much the reason why I’m so into hip hop and DJing!
Why are you listening to Skyzoo?
I’m listening to Skyzoo The Salvation and Strong Arm Steady Stoney Jackson, both really solid hip hop albums and what I need to hear right now in this autotune madness we’re in now!
Why can’t you scratch as well with your right hand as you can your left?
I straight up find it awkward, uncomfortable and inconsistent! Much as I practice, still can’t do it as well.
Why do you fly Etihad?
When I went to Dubai I flew with them with Yungun a couple years ago, it’s super nice! Thankfully Ryanair or Easyjet don’t fly to Australia – the thought of them makes my blood boil.
Why is cake your fave food?
I love cake, coffee cake is my favourite of all time as made by my mum and my gran, who doesn’t love cake?
Why are you coming back to Australia?
I’m coming back to Australia to promote the BBE comp primarily but also looking forward to playing out there, do some digging, catch up with some friends and also see my cousins out in Brisbane, can’t wait!
